Safety Glass

Klas1 windows are safe products by design, but certain applications require the use of specific safety glass. These include tempered and laminated glasses, as well as combinations thereof. They can be used in facades, doors, bathroom interiors, etc.

In the event of breakage, the glass fragments in laminated safety glass remain attached to the plastic interlayer, minimizing the risk of lacerations. At the same time, the glass's structural integrity prevents penetration during a break-in. If necessary, even bulletproof glazing can be used.

To ensure general operational safety, glass edges are ground as required by the specific application.

Heated Insulating Glass

Heated glass is used to prevent problems caused by cold glass surfaces. The glass prevents cold radiation, water condensation, icing, and cold air currents, also known as the feeling of a draft.

The thickness of the glass unit is determined by the application, whether it is a public space, a detached house, or a vacation home. Heated insulating glass acts as a heat source and can be switched off if necessary. The most common applications are spas, washrooms, and large glass surfaces, where the warm surface of the glass increases comfort.

Fire Protection

Fire protection used to mean solid steel or stone structures. Today, fire protection can also be achieved with windows. This enables many new types of architectural solutions. New fire-rated glasses even provide better protection than many other alternatives.

A wide range of fire-rated glasses is available for Klas1 windows, and they can also be combined with other specialty glasses.

Energy Efficiency

Klas1 windows can utilize glass that offers excellent transparency and energy properties. Low-E glass can filter out harmful solar radiation while keeping heat inside and cold outside.

Active heating glass is also available. Thermal insulation can be further improved by using warm edge spacers, such as TPS or SS (Thermoplastic Spacer and Super Spacer), along with various gas fills.

With the right glass choices, indoor climate issues previously problematic with both large and small glass surfaces—such as cold drafts and energy loss—can be prevented, and thermal surplus management can be implemented.

The U-value of Klas1 window systems is 0.62 W/m2K.

Solar Control Glass

Self-Cleaning Glass

Klas1 windows can utilize the unique self-cleaning Pilkington Activ™ glass. It has a dual-action coating that uses the forces of nature to keep the glass free of organic dirt. The surface layer breaks down and loosens organic dirt, and the properties of the same layer cause rainwater to wash away dust and dirt effectively without leaving unsightly streaks.

Anti-Condensation Glass

Condensation on the outer surface of the outermost pane is a result of the window's high thermal insulation and typical weather fluctuations. Anti-condensation glass is available as an option for all products.

External condensation is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the surface temperature of the window drops below the dew point of the outside air.

Anti-condensation glass has a thin, transparent pyrolytic coating on the outer surface. It works by keeping the surface temperature of the outer pane higher, thereby minimizing the occurrence of condensation.

Correspondingly, anti-condensation glass minimizes the occurrence of condensation compared to a similar window pane without an anti-condensation coating. Anti-condensation glass minimizes external condensation in highly insulated window structures and keeps windows clearer for longer in conditions prone to fogging.

Sound Insulation

Airborne sound insulation R was measured according to the EN ISO 10140–2:2010 [1] standard, and the sound reduction indices Rw+C and Rw+Ctr were determined according to the EN ISO 717–1:2013 [2] standard.

The sound reduction index Rw+Ctr can be used, for example, to assess sound insulation against urban traffic noise, and the index Rw+C can be used, for example, to assess airborne sound insulation against jet engine noise near airports.
